Miami: Rory McIlroy clinched a St. Patrick’s Day victory at the Players Championship, defeating J.J. Spaun in a playoff at TPC Sawgrass for his 28th PGA Tour title.
McIlroy and Spaun finished tied after Sunday’s storm-hit final round, but McIlroy dominated Monday’s playoff. He birdied the 16th, while Spaun struggled with a triple-bogey on the 17th. A bogey on the 18th secured McIlroy’s win.
This marks McIlroy’s second Players Championship triumph, celebrated as the Northern Ireland flag was raised on St. Patrick’s Day.
